There is nothing nastier than a hog except maybe a demon.
Well, I have had to fight to post this and my intro is gone… I will post what is left of my 2-hour work. Take that devil!
This is the Scripture from KJV Bible about Jesus casting out demons.
Forgive this sloppy post as I said it has been a war to get this much out to you.
And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.
9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea
Here we read about not just one but many demons. We learn from this passage that demons do exist and can possess our bodies making us act in ways harmful to our persons.
Demonology is the study of demons or the belief in them.
The link above has lists of demons and their reported effects on humans. I am not going to give the demonic power much thought here. My reason for writing this blog article is to point to the true power found in God. Specifically the power of Jesus Christ our Savior.
This Scripture shows us that all the demons knew who Jesus was and were in subjection to God. They begged for Jesus to not torment them. Torment can be defined as to stir up or bother. These demons knew Jesus would not destroy them yet for God had not sent him to do so at this time he was to simply pave a path of redemption for lost souls. He had however paused to cast out these demons and force them to obey by leaving the man they had made their home in.
They wanted to stay but were at his mercy. So why did Jesus grant them the request to go I into the swine? That is a question many of us wonder at. It was not because he had to but perhaps to show us that if left to torment a person the end is a filthy life and tragic death. You see here the power of Christ Jesus contrasted with that of the demons. He has greater power founded on mercy and grace than that of all those demons. He freed the man from possession and transformed his life for the better. The demons served themselves and did not give the man anything but grief. Jesus served the man, not his self. He gave real power to the man. You see on our own we can’t overcome what torments us, but through the power of Jesus, we are able to be free. He is not self-centered but God-centered. God being true love seeks to restore and heal us not destroy.
Even the demons know who God is. They have no choice but to obey and fear God. Satan himself has no power but that which God allows. Read Job and notice how Satan has to ask God’s permission to torment Job and must obey and not kill him! So why then do people today ascribed power to Satan beyond what he really has?
We are vain and easily lead astray by the seduction of personal power. We want to wield the power for our own and bend it to our desires. Satan uses this power hunger to mentally manipulate us into the clutches of demons.
What we don’t know is that real power is found only by the blood of Christ and our filling of the Holy Spirit. Demoniac power controls our lives but the Holy Spirit’s power transforms our lives. Under the control of demons we suffer unto death but with the help of God’s Holy Spirit, we thrive unto life!
My advice to you is read God’s word and let God be the power in your life!
